Always wanted to try functional programming, but never had the opportunity? Now’s your chance!
Functional programming approaches computation through the lens of mathematical functions. Perhaps you’ve attended functional programming talks before but what happened when you went to work the next day? Did you wonder do you apply FP approaches in your day-to-day code base?
Engineers Erik Schmiegelow and Tun Shwe have a deep appreciation for functional programming and will help you make the leap from theory to practice on the evening of 3rd July. They’ll provide an overview of functional programming and the mindset that goes into this methodology.
Then they’ll hand over to you, to try programming your way through some real-world exercises. Don’t worry if you get stuck; we speak Java, Python and Scala, so we’ll be there to help you along the way.
18:30 – Arrival – drinks and food
19:00 – Going Functional – Erik and Tun
19:30 – BYOM (Bring Your Own Machine) – group coding session
If you want to participate in the coding session—which we hope you do—don’t forget to bring a laptop you’re happy to write code on. See you there!
This is an IWOMM Event – IWOMM (it works on my machine) A public tech club for both new and experienced developers/engineers to discover and learn about cutting-edge technology.
